History

How Uplift LA Got its Start

Originally called the Young Professionals of the Lewiston-Auburn Area (YPLAA), Uplift LA was founded in 2006 by a group of 20-somethings that wanted to feel more connected to their local community and help revitalize the downtown region. Working together with the (then) Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, YPLAA was formed to give young professionals a voice and an outlet for socializing and networking that went beyond the local bar scene. Fast forward 11 years and the group now offers professional and personal development seminars and workshops, group volunteer activities, monthly networking opportunities, and a fun (but challenging) two-week program meant to immerse participants in all the great possibilities available in the local region. In 2016, YPLAA underwent a rebrand as part of its 10th anniversary celebration and became Uplift LA. Still committed to its roots, Uplift LA offers its members a chance to be part of something larger than themselves while giving back to the community that they live, work, and play in. This is an example.
